Probably, Brathwaite himself knows that his place in an elite club like Barcelona should not be regular in terms of technique or talent. Neither does he try to sell. His biggest strength is that he tries to give his full ability in every match by realizing that his place is not permanent.
Barca bought this player for only 18 million. With that in mind, it has been a great business to buy Brathwaite without a doubt according to his contribution so far. His fitness, pace is great, and he plays direct football.
However, even after 2 goals and 1 assist, he should not be hyped for the whole season. I think there is room for improvement in his vision and dribbling. At the same time, it is sometimes too late to release the ball at the right time.
I am 30 years old so I am not expecting dramatic improvement. However, there is no need to sell him. Especially since other forwards of the team are prone to injuries. As such, he can be easily given a place in the team as a substitute.
However, after 2 goals and 1 assist, I am reluctant to be hyped for the whole season with him. Even after getting a chance to draw a few matches last season, Barca level performance was not available then – especially close matches, against low blocked teams. On the contrary, his technical gap has come to the fore again and again.
It is not right to overestimate it from there. Rated as a team player bought at a low price, happy to get minimal support from him when needed. But he played really well in the last match. Performance like in the last match is a bonus to me.
